Sheep Wool Insulation

Sheep wool is a starting material for the production of building insulation, intended for interior thermal insulation of buildings. It complements the range of insulation materials and has numerous benefits. It is an alternative ecological product with excellent thermal technical properties. The thermal insulation is produced using a unique technology without binders, in rolls of different widths and a thickness of about 4 cm. The main advantage of wool is that it is the only material whose production is beneficial to nature and the landscape, instead of burdening it more or less.

Main Advantages of Sheep Wool Insulation:
  • It has excellent insulating properties, is a fully natural product and is health-safe, it does not burn (it chars) and contains no harmful substances.
  • It has high hygroscopicity – up to 30%. It absorbs and re-releases atmospheric moisture. Wool can absorb atmospheric moisture up to one third of its weight and return it to the interior. It can naturally regulate the room climate, which makes it fundamentally different from common insulation materials.
  • It does not require a vapor barrier, which would otherwise prevent the natural air conditioning effect and breathability of the house.
  • It is energy-efficient in production, environmentally friendly, renewable, recyclable, and its lifespan can be demonstrably calculated for centuries (tapestries).
  • It is comfortable to handle, does not “itch,” and does not require protective equipment.
  • Affordable, as no vapor barrier is necessary, the price per m² is comparable to mineral materials.
Insulation Parameters:

Thermal conductivity: 0.038 W/mK
Flammability class according to DIN 4102 – Part 1: B2
Flammability degree according to ČSN 730862: C3
Density: 12.5 – 25 kg/m3

Use:

Production process: The mixture of selected sheep wool is washed exclusively with ecological methods and after lanolin separation is shaped into rolls. The material has long durability and is stable. Fire retardant – shear wool, even without special treatment, has an ignition temperature of 560°C and has self-extinguishing ability. To increase fire resistance, about 2% fire retardant is added. Before processing, the wool is treated with an anti-mold agent.

Use: For partitions, ceiling, acoustic ceilings, and walls, the main requirement is noise protection and fire safety. In these cases, the unique natural hygroscopicity of sheep wool is also used.
It is suitable for all standard rafter distances (80 – 90 cm) and various widths of lightweight partitions or boards, for use in between-beam insulation when building log cabins, wooden houses – bands with widths of 10, 15, 20 cm. It is laid practically without waste, as any inaccurately cut edge can easily be compressed to the required size.
